Aeon’s Aegis delivered an impressive performance in the Thoroughbred Derby Trial for three-year-olds, winning decisively at Al Uqda Racecourse in Doha, Qatar, on March 16, 2024. This victory marked the gelding’s second win in three starts this season, showcasing his potential in the competitive racing circuit.

Owned by Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Rashid Al-Thani and trained by Mohammed Al Ghazali, Aeon’s Aegis was patiently settled by jockey Soufiane Saadi before making a strong move in the home straight. The horse surged past his competitors, taking the lead just 100 meters from the finish line and securing victory by an impressive five lengths, contributing to Saadi’s successful evening.

Additional Notable Performances

Mureb also shone during the event, achieving a narrow victory in the Purebred Arabian Derby Trial for four-year-olds, covering the same distance of 2100 meters. Owned by Wathnan Racing and trained by Alban de Mieulle, the grey gelding displayed determination under Saadi’s guidance, clinching the win by the smallest of margins.

Continuing the trend of outstanding performances, Zah’ran Al Shahania remained unbeaten after winning the National Derby Trial for local Purebred Arabians. Owned by North Racing, this bay gelding executed a strong finish, winning by one and a half lengths, thereby solidifying his status as a rising star in the sport.

Meanwhile, Blessed Star marked a significant milestone by breaking her maiden in the Thoroughbred Oaks Trial for three-year-old fillies. Representing Al Falah Stud, she battled fiercely and emerged victorious by one and a quarter lengths, under the training of Hamad Al-Jehani, who celebrates a second consecutive Oaks title.

Exciting Wins Across the Board

Chdia made headlines with a commanding win in the Purebred Arabian Oaks Trial for four-year-old fillies, finishing three lengths ahead of her closest rival. This victory continued her owner, trainer, and jockey’s successful streak, following last year’s triumph with Divana Chica, thereby reinforcing their dominance in the category.

In a strong debut, Best Way retained the title of 3YO Local Thoroughbred Trial for the same connections as last year’s winner, War Boy. After a late start in the 1400-meter race, the colt surged ahead to win by two lengths, thanks to a skillful ride by James Doyle.

Keheilah Al Sakab also showcased her skills in the Local Purebred Arabian Oaks Trial, securing her second victory in four starts. Under the guidance of jockey Alberto Sanna, the grey filly tracked the leader and executed a decisive move in the home straight to win by three and a half lengths.

Completing the evening’s highlights, Dhariya maintained her perfect record in Qatar with a polished win in the Purebred Arabian Derby Trial for three-year-olds over 1400 meters. Representing Al Shaqab Racing and trained by Jean de Mieulle, the grey filly quickened in the final furlong to secure her second career win by half a length.

Lastly, Hay’er Al Shahania showcased his consistency in the Local Purebred Arabian Derby Trial for three-year-olds, clinching victory by three-quarters of a length under jockey Jefferson Smith. This win marked his second career victory in a promising racing career that includes three additional placed efforts.
