Egypt’s Trézéguet Enthusiastic Ahead of Arab Cup Kickoff

The FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 is set to commence on December 1, and Egyptian national team player, Mahmoud ‘Trézéguet’ Hassan, expressed his pride in representing Egypt during this prestigious tournament. The competition highlights the growing recognition of Arab football on the global stage, with Qatar once again in the spotlight following its successful hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Hassan, known for his goal-scoring prowess, stated, “The world witnessed Qatar’s exceptional hosting capabilities during the World Cup in 2022. It was a historic achievement not just for the country, but for the region. Now with the Arab Cup, all eyes are on Qatar once again, as Arab football takes centre stage.”

Egypt’s Ambitions in Group C

Egypt has been drawn into Group C of the tournament, alongside Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait. The team aims to improve on its previous performance, where they finished fourth in the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup after a penalty shootout loss to Qatar. Hassan emphasized the significance of the tournament for Egypt, stating, “The Arab Cup is an incredible tournament. It is an honour for Egypt to play in this prestigious competition.”

As a key player for both the national team and Al Ahly, the Egyptian football powerhouse, Hassan has had a successful career that includes stints with prominent clubs such as Aston Villa in the English Premier League and Qatar’s Al-Rayyan SC. Since making his national team debut in 2014, he has accumulated 86 caps and scored 22 goals, contributing to Egypt’s qualification for the upcoming 2026 World Cup.

Looking ahead, Egypt will kick off their Arab Cup campaign against Kuwait on December 2 at Lusail Stadium at 17:30 local time. Hassan remarked on the experience of playing in Qatar, stating, “Playing in Qatar is a wonderful experience for any player. They will be playing in World Cup stadiums, which makes this tournament all the more special.”
