Egypt’s Trézéguet Celebrates Arab Cup’s Return to Qatar
The FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 has officially commenced, and Egyptian national team player, Mahmoud ‘Trézéguet’ Hassan, expressed pride in Qatar’s significant role in elevating sports within the region. This tournament highlights the spotlight on Arab football, with many eager to witness the competition unfold.
Hassan emphasized Qatar’s exceptional organizational skills, recalling the successful hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. “It was a historic achievement not just for the country, but for the region. Now with the Arab Cup, all eyes are on Qatar once again,” he stated. His impressive goal-scoring ability earned him the nickname ‘Trézéguet’, inspired by the former French footballer David Trézéguet.
Egypt’s Group Stage Challenge
In the current tournament, Egypt finds itself in Group C, competing against Jordan, UAE, and Kuwait. The Pharaohs aim to improve upon their previous performance, where they finished fourth after a narrow penalty shootout loss to the hosts, Qatar, during the last Arab Cup held in 2021.
“The Arab Cup is an incredible tournament. It is an honour for Egypt to play in this prestigious competition,” said Hassan. He underscored that every match offers the team a chance to demonstrate its capabilities. “I am sure they are ready to give it their all and make our fans proud,” he added. He currently plays as a midfielder for Al Ahly and has also had stints with top European clubs, including Aston Villa and Al-Rayyan SC.
Commitment to the National Team
Since his debut with the Egyptian national team in 2014, Hassan has been a vital player, contributing to the team’s journey to the African Cup finals in both 2017 and 2023. Recently, he made a significant impact during the 2026 World Cup qualification campaign, scoring five goals to help secure Egypt’s place in the tournament.
“There is no greater feeling than wearing the national team jersey, with millions of Egyptian fans cheering for you. Playing for Egypt is an honour. I look forward to every match as though it is my first,” Hassan remarked. He has made 86 appearances for the national team, netting a total of 22 goals.
Egypt will commence its campaign in the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 on December 2, 2025, facing Kuwait at the iconic Lusail Stadium at 17:30. Hassan expressed enthusiasm about playing in Qatar, stating, “Playing in Qatar is a wonderful experience for any player. They will be playing on World Cup stadiums, which makes this tournament all the more special.” He praised Qatar’s sporting infrastructure, noting that the quality of stadiums and facilities significantly impacts a team’s performance and success.
The FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 runs from December 1 to 18, featuring matches across six stadiums that previously hosted games during the historic FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. A total of 16 teams will compete for the coveted trophy, showcasing the growing prominence of Arab football on the world stage.
