Qatar’s Volleyball Team Triumphs Over Saudi Arabia at Games
The Qatari men’s volleyball team achieved a significant victory on November 20, 2023, by defeating hosts Saudi Arabia 3-1 at the sixth Islamic Solidarity Games held in Riyadh. This match was part of a larger sporting event that runs until November 21, attracting considerable attention from sports enthusiasts.
After losing the opening set with a score of 21-25, Qatar rebounded impressively. They showcased a blend of powerful attacking plays and robust defense, winning the subsequent three sets with scores of 25-16, 25-20, and 25-21. The match drew a large crowd to Riyadh Boulevard, amplifying the atmosphere as Qatar secured their crucial win.
Upcoming Challenges and Other Sports Highlights
Qatar’s volleyball team now faces Bahrain in a critical match that could solidify their position in the knockout stages of the tournament. A victory against Bahrain will be essential for further progression in the Games.
In addition to the volleyball action, Qatar’s swimmer Ali Tamer qualified for the final of the men’s 100m freestyle event. The final is scheduled to take place on the same day at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Olympic Complex. Tamer posted a time of 50.44 seconds in the heats and followed with a 50.53-second performance in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, teammate Mohammed Aziz Ismail narrowly missed advancing to the final of the 200m butterfly, finishing fourth in his heat with a time of 2:12.26. In an unfortunate turn of events, Hamza al-Shaalan had to withdraw from the 200m breaststroke final due to an injury sustained during warm-ups.

The medal standings at the Islamic Solidarity Games are currently led by Turkiye, which has amassed a total of 58 medals, including 37 gold, 12 silver, and 9 bronze. Egypt follows in second place with 18 medals, comprising 6 gold, 4 silver, and 8 bronze. Nigeria ranks third with 10 medals, featuring 5 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze.
This year’s Games have highlighted the competitive spirit and athletic prowess of participants from various nations, with Qatar’s performances in both volleyball and swimming drawing particular attention.
