A series of successful fundraisers in November has significantly advanced efforts to support Indie, a young girl battling a rare and aggressive brain tumor. Events held this month, including “An Evening with Indie” and “Row for Indie,” have collectively raised over $25,000 to assist her family with travel costs for treatment in Atlanta.

The highlight of the fundraising efforts was “An Evening with Indie,” a seated dinner and live auction held on **November 8** at the Loan and Merc. Organized by Prue Kingan, Clare Engelbrecht, and Jess Percival, the event featured entertainment from this year’s Gold Guitar winner, **Keily Smith**. Kingan expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “We were thrilled with the event. It was incredible to see so many people come together to support Indie and the Todd family.”

The evening was filled with heartfelt moments, showcasing community support. Kingan described the atmosphere as “a room filled with lots of love for Indie, Haylee, Shaun, and Hudson.” The auction, led by auctioneer Barry Fox, was met with enthusiasm, raising significant funds through various items donated by local businesses. Kingan emphasized the impact of the community’s generosity, saying, “Your generosity is something we will never forget, and the impact you have made on Indie’s journey is huge.”

Indie, who was diagnosed in **May 2023**, underwent major surgery that successfully removed **95%** of the tumor. Her father, **Shaun Todd**, mentioned that details regarding travel and treatment dates are still being finalized. He described Indie as a “tough cookie,” currently recovering at home after her final round of chemotherapy. “All the support really means the world,” he added.

In addition to the dinner event, the family also received substantial contributions from another fundraiser, “Row for Indie,” organized by Indie’s uncle and aunt, **Blair and Caitlin Todd**, along with family friend **Brianna Graham**. Held at the **Oamaru Rowing Club** on **November 1**, the event raised **$23,000** through raffles and generous donations. Shaun Todd commented on the turnout, stating, “We had a great turnout of family and friends which helped us get to our goal. Collectively, we rowed **507 km**, which was amazing.”

Caitlin Todd completed **110 km** alone, while Graham rowed **80 km** while breastfeeding, showcasing remarkable dedication. Shaun’s father, Michael Todd, also contributed by rowing **21 km**, providing entertainment and support during the event.

A unique aspect of the fundraising efforts was a mural fundraiser by local artist **Matthew Wicks** (known as Wicksey). The winner of the mural turned out to be Indie’s grandmother, **Ainslie Peck**, who will accompany the family to Atlanta. Wicks expressed his gratitude, stating, “It will be a privilege to make some art for her after all she’s been doing for her family during Indie’s journey.” The mural fundraiser raised **$1,720**, further aiding the family’s efforts.

Shaun Todd expressed deep appreciation for the overwhelming support from the community, noting that local businesses donated numerous items for raffles and auctions. “The fundraisers have been incredible. We have been absolutely blown away. We wish we could have been there, but at the same time, we wish they didn’t have to happen,” he reflected. “We are so lucky to have so many amazing people in our lives that are prepared to put in a huge amount of work to help us.”

As the Todd family prepares for the next steps in Indie’s treatment journey, the outpouring of community support has been both a source of strength and hope. With the funds raised, they are a step closer to ensuring Indie receives the care she needs in Atlanta.
