The second annual Masterton Christmas Fair took place on December 2, 2023, attracting a significant number of visitors and stallholders to the town’s main street. Organised by the Masterton South Rotary Club, the event featured over 100 stall units set up along Queen Street, stretching from Jackson Street in the south to Park Street in the north.

Warwick Dean, the lead organiser from the Rotary Club, expressed satisfaction with the fair’s success. “It was a fantastic day for both punters and stallholders,” Dean stated, highlighting the vibrant atmosphere as the event reached its peak attendance. Survey data indicated that more than two-thirds of attendees were local residents, while roughly 11% came from rural areas and 6% traveled from outside the Wairarapa region.

This year’s fair built on the positive reception of the inaugural event last year, confirming its place as a staple in the community calendar. Dean confirmed that plans are already underway to host the next fair on the second weekend of December in 2024.

The stalls offered a diverse range of quality products, providing ample choices for visitors. “There was a wide selection for people to see and buy,” Dean noted, underscoring the variety that contributed to the fair’s appeal. The event also featured a stage for live music, enhancing the festive atmosphere, alongside a designated area for food vendors.

Additionally, the fair served a dual purpose by supporting local initiatives. The Wairarapa Boxing Academy participated by assisting with recycling efforts as a fundraiser, combining community service with entertainment.

Overall, the Masterton Christmas Fair not only showcased local talent and products but also fostered community spirit and engagement, reinforcing the Rotary Club’s commitment to serving the region.
