The New Zealand Woman’s Weekly is actively searching for a new editor following the announcement that Marilynn McLachlan will step down after five years in the position. McLachlan will transition to the role of Lifestyle Editor once her successor is appointed. The recruitment process for the new editor has already begun.

Founded on December 8, 1932, the New Zealand Woman’s Weekly is one of the country’s oldest magazines. Its circulation reached a high point in the mid-1980s, selling approximately 250,000 copies each week. The magazine faced significant challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, leading to a temporary hiatus when its then-owner, Bauer Media Group, ceased operations in New Zealand. Fortunately, the publication was revived later that year after being acquired by Mercury Capital, which has since rebranded as Are Media.

The New Zealand Woman’s Weekly has had a number of notable editors throughout its history, including writers Wendyl Nissen and Nicky Pellegrino. As the magazine seeks to fill this crucial position, McLachlan’s experience and insights will remain integral to the publication during the transitional period.

This search for a new editor represents a significant moment for a publication that has navigated various challenges while remaining a staple in New Zealand’s media landscape. The incoming editor will have the opportunity to shape the magazine’s future and connect with its loyal readership.
