Taranaki Women’s Refuge Raises $118,000 at Pop-Up Shop
A recent clothing pop-up shop organized by the Taranaki Women’s Refuge successfully raised $118,000 to support women and families affected by domestic violence. The event took place from September 20 to 28, 2023, at the New Plymouth Raceway, drawing significant community support.
Shona Smith, the relationship manager at Taranaki Women’s Refuge, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming contributions. She highlighted the collective effort of the community, businesses, volunteers, and donors. “The generosity of our community, businesses, volunteers, donors, shoppers, with the dedication and hard work of our Pop Up team, has been duly reflected by a remarkable result,” Smith stated on Facebook.
The funds generated from the pop-up shop will be directed towards various initiatives aimed at supporting the refuge’s operations across the region. This outcome underscores the importance of community involvement in addressing issues related to domestic violence.
Looking ahead, the Taranaki Women’s Refuge is planning its next major fundraising event, titled Deck the Halls for Refuge, set for November 15, 2023. Tickets are still available for this upcoming event, which aims to further bolster the organization’s efforts in providing essential support and resources to those in need.
The success of the pop-up shop reflects a growing awareness and commitment to combatting domestic violence within the Taranaki region. As organizations like the Taranaki Women’s Refuge continue to engage with the community, the hope is to create a safer environment for all.
