Fabian Holland Named Breakthrough Player of the Year for 2025
New Zealand’s rugby sensation, Fabian Holland, has been awarded World Rugby’s Breakthrough Player of the Year for 2025, highlighting a stellar debut season with the All Blacks. Holland made his first appearance for the national team in July 2025 during a test match against France, where he showcased his skills by playing the full 80 minutes. During this match, he made an impressive 16 tackles, the highest on the team, and contributed to 40 rucks.
The 23-year-old, who was born in the Netherlands, continued to excel throughout the year. He played the complete duration in his next two fixtures against France and participated in every test match this year except for one against England, from which he was sidelined due to illness just before kickoff.
All Blacks coach Scott Robertson commended Holland’s achievement, describing the recognition as a fitting tribute to one of New Zealand rugby’s most promising young talents.
Remarkable Journey to the All Blacks
Robertson noted the extraordinary journey Holland undertook to reach this level. “Fabian’s story is like something out of a movie. He grew up in the Netherlands dreaming of playing for a team on the other side of the world,” he said. The coach highlighted Holland’s courageous decision to move to New Zealand at the age of 16, a bold step that has led to him realizing his dream.
“It is no coincidence that he has reached this point,” Robertson added. “Fabian works incredibly hard to meet his goals and is one of the most determined and focused players I have come across. It is that work ethic that will see him continue to succeed.”
Holland’s rapid ascent in international rugby has not only garnered attention but also set a benchmark for young athletes around the globe. His dedication and performance on the field have made a significant impact, establishing him as a key player for the All Blacks as they look towards future competitions.
As the rugby world celebrates Holland’s achievements, his story serves as an inspiration for aspiring players everywhere, demonstrating that with determination and hard work, dreams can indeed be turned into reality.
