Suzuki International Series Ignites Motorcycle Racing in Taupō
The highly anticipated **Suzuki International Series** kicks off this weekend in **Taupō**, marking the start of a thrilling three-round motorcycle road-race event. Organiser **Allan Willacy** has finalized preparations for the series, now in its **17th year**, which promises to draw top talent from both New Zealand and abroad.
Following the opening round in Taupō, the series will head to **Feilding** next weekend for its second round, concluding with the renowned **Cemetery Circuit** street race in **Whanganui** on **Boxing Day**. Willacy expressed excitement over the large number of entries this year, highlighting participation from elite riders across New Zealand, as well as competitors from the **United States**, **United Kingdom**, and **Australia**.
“The competitors are always eager to showcase their skills, aiming to win or enhance their reputations,” Willacy stated. He emphasized that spectators can look forward to the fast-paced action that characterizes the series.
This year’s lineup includes notable riders such as the father-and-son duo from Whakatane, **Tony and Mitch Rees**, Christchurch’s **Alastair Hoogenboezem**, Auckland’s **Dave Sharp**, and several others. The roster also features up-and-coming talents such as **Zak Fuller** from Taupiri and **Ashton Hughes** from Bulls, with each competitor poised to make a significant impact.
The inclusive nature of the series allows club-level riders to compete alongside experienced international participants. Willacy noted, “These races often serve as a launching pad for many of our emerging competitors.”
The Suzuki International Series caters to various motorcycle classes, appealing to a wide range of motorcycle owners. This inclusive structure contributes to the high participation numbers seen each year. Willacy concluded, “Our goal is to offer something for everyone in the motorcycle community.”
As the series gets underway, excitement builds among riders and fans alike, making this event a highlight of the New Zealand motorsport calendar.
