Andrew Bayly Shares Summer Plans and Favorites Ahead of Break
As the summer break approaches, Members of Parliament in New Zealand have shared their plans for the holiday season. Among them, Port Waikato MP Andrew Bayly spoke with journalist Anna Whyte about his anticipated activities, reading material, and culinary favorites.
Bayly expressed excitement for a quintessential New Zealand summer, noting that all three of his sons will be home for the holidays. One son has returned from Singapore, another from London, while the youngest remains in New Zealand. The family plans to gather in Paihia on Christmas Day for celebrations before heading to his brother’s place for a few days. Following that, they will visit the Coromandel region to enjoy golfing, fishing, and various outdoor activities. Bayly mentioned the possibility of traveling to the South Island afterward to continue their summer adventures.
Summer Culinary Delights and Entertainment
In terms of culinary preferences, Bayly enjoys making scones topped with jam and cream. He mentioned that during their stay in the Coromandel, they often welcome visitors who stop by for a taste of his homemade treats. “It’s a great way to connect with people,” he said.
When it comes to beverages, his drink of choice is a pisco sour, a cocktail that showcases his taste for refreshing flavors. Bayly also has a list of books he plans to read over the break, including Rory Stewart’s title, *How Not To Be a Politician*. He remarked that he appreciates reading the Post, indicating his commitment to staying informed during his time off.
For entertainment, Bayly is currently watching the television series *Landman*. He enjoys the mix of drama and storytelling, finding it a fitting way to unwind during the holidays. Music also plays a role in his summer plans, with a fondness for classic tunes, including hits from Rihanna, which he deems perfect for road trips.
Favorite Locations and Activities
When asked about his favorite swimming spot, Bayly highlighted the beach at Matarangi in the Coromandel, which spans approximately 4 kilometers. He appreciates the scenic beauty and tranquil atmosphere, making it a prime destination for family outings.
As summer approaches, Bayly’s plans reflect a balance of family, leisure, and personal enjoyment. His enthusiasm for traditional summer activities and quality time with loved ones exemplifies the spirit of the holiday season in New Zealand. As the festive period unfolds, many will undoubtedly find inspiration in his approach to a fulfilling summer break.
