Three Men Charged Following Serious Assaults in Westport

Three men face serious charges following two violent assaults that took place in Westport on October 29, 2023. According to Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Glen Lindup of the West Coast police, the first incident involved a male victim who was allegedly lured to a residence by an acquaintance. Upon arrival, the victim was assaulted by two other men.

After managing to escape the location, the victim sought medical attention for his injuries. Later that same evening, the three alleged offenders traveled to a different address in Westport, where they assaulted a second male victim. This individual sustained serious injuries and required airlifting to a hospital in Greymouth for treatment.

Police Response and Charges Filed

In response to the incidents, the West Coast Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), alongside the Public Safety Team and Offender Prevention Team, executed search warrants at three properties in Westport. The operation led to the arrest of all three suspects.

A 55-year-old man has been charged with threatening to kill, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and injuring with intent. A 26-year-old man faces similar charges, specifically wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and injuring with intent. Both men are scheduled to appear in Greymouth District Court tomorrow.

Additionally, a 33-year-old man has been charged with threatening to kill, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and injuring with intent. He has been remanded on bail and is set to reappear in Westport District Court on November 6, 2023.

Detective Senior Sergeant Lindup confirmed that police are not seeking any additional suspects in connection with these assaults. The cases highlight ongoing concerns regarding public safety in the region, prompting a thorough investigation by law enforcement.
