Man Arrested Following Fleeing Driver Incident in Invercargill

A man is in police custody following a fleeing driver incident that disrupted traffic near Invercargill, New Zealand, on the afternoon of March 15, 2024. Around 17:00 local time, officers from the Southland District Police attempted to engage with a driver when the vehicle sped away, prompting a response from law enforcement.

According to Southland Area Commander Inspector Mike Bowman, the police initiated a pursuit but quickly decided to abandon it due to concerns over the vehicle’s erratic driving. “Officers have used their training and coordinated their response. That allowed other units to get into place ahead of the vehicle,” he stated.
