Search Efforts Intensify for Missing Man off Whangarei Coast
Authorities will continue search operations on the morning of March 15, 2024, for a man missing off the coast of Whangarei, New Zealand. This follows the disappearance of two individuals who were on a boat that failed to return to Pataua South as scheduled at 19:00 on March 14.
The boat was located yesterday, but no occupants were found on board. Shortly after this discovery, a member of the public reported finding the body of one of the missing men in the water. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.
Search Operations Underway
Search and rescue crews, including the Police Dive Squad, along with volunteers from Coastguard Tutukaka and Coastguard Whangarei, have been actively engaged in the search throughout the day. Despite extensive efforts, authorities have not yet located the second missing individual.
A police spokesperson confirmed that the search will resume at first light, with both aerial and maritime resources deployed to cover the area. This includes the use of drones and boats equipped with sonar technology to assist in locating the man.
Local residents have expressed their concern and support for the families affected by this tragic incident. Many have gathered at the Pataua South beach, hoping for a positive outcome as search efforts continue.
As the community remains hopeful, police urge anyone with information related to the incident to come forward. The situation highlights the importance of safety measures while engaging in water activities, especially in unpredictable conditions.
Authorities will provide updates as the search progresses.
