Discover Auckland’s Exciting Weekend Activities: Art, Skating, and More

Auckland is buzzing with activities this weekend, offering a range of engaging events for residents and visitors alike. From art exhibitions to outdoor competitions, the city has something for everyone looking to break away from routine. Notably, the historic Rainbow Warrior will be open for free tours, allowing people to explore this iconic vessel and learn about its rich history and ongoing campaigns.
Explore the Rainbow Warrior
In a significant return, Greenpeace’s flagship vessel, the Rainbow Warrior, is docked at Wynyard Quarter for public tours. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the bombing of the original Rainbow Warrior by the French government, making this event particularly poignant. Guests can board the ship and interact with crew members and campaigners, who will share insights into life aboard an activist vessel and recount stories from their recent voyages.
The free tours are scheduled for July 15, 2023, from 10:00 to 16:00, with the last boarding at 15:30. On July 16, 2023, the tours will run from 10:00 to 14:00, with the final boarding at 13:30. Those unable to board can still enjoy various activities on land, including campaign stalls and children’s activities. The location for the tours is Halsey St Wharf in Wynyard Quarter, an area known for its vibrant atmosphere and waterfront views.
Additional Weekend Activities
Beyond the Rainbow Warrior, Auckland offers a variety of events to suit different interests. Ice skating enthusiasts can enjoy the winter season at local rinks, which provide a fun way to stay active. Families can participate in Beyblade competitions, showcasing skill and strategy in a lively environment. Art exhibitions around the city also provide an opportunity to appreciate local talent and creativity.
Whether one is interested in environmental activism, sports, or the arts, Auckland’s weekend lineup promises to deliver a mix of entertainment and inspiration. Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of these events, which highlight the city’s diverse culture and community spirit.
With so many options available, Auckland is set to transform any dull mid-July weekend into an engaging experience.
