Silawi Claims Dominant Victory in Winter Hill Stakes at Windsor

In an impressive display of speed and stamina, Silawi secured a commanding victory in the Gr.3 Weatherbys Global Stallions App Winter Hill Stakes held at Windsor on August 26, 2023. The race, contested over 2000 meters, featured a competitive field of five runners, showcasing the talent present in this prestigious event.
Trained by Hamad Al Jehani and ridden by jockey Cieren Fallon, Silawi raced under the silks of Wathnan Racing. This five-year-old gelding demonstrated his familiarity with the Windsor course, having previously won the Thorn Plant Hire Ltd Handicap there in May. Despite a fifth-place finish in the Coral Chesterfield Cup Handicap prior to this race, Silawi stepped up to Group company with remarkable authority, clinching the title of Gr.3 winner.
Race Dynamics and Performance
From the start, Silawi quickly established himself at the front, taking the lead as he was closely followed by Devil’s Advocate. The highly regarded Military Order settled into a comfortable position behind the leading pack. As the race progressed, Silawi maintained his lead, forcing his competitors off the bridle as the pace intensified approaching the final bend.
As the race unfolded, Military Order began to close the gap, appearing to be the only serious threat to Silawi’s dominance. However, the leader responded to the challenge with renewed vigor, maintaining his advantage throughout the final straight. The two horses battled for supremacy, but Silawi consistently found the strength to stay ahead, ultimately crossing the finish line three-quarters of a length in front.
Military Order finished in second place, while Royal Playwright made a late surge to secure third.
Background and Breeding Insights
Silawi was bred by Wertheimer et Frere and is out of Silasol, a dual Gr.1 winner with victories at both 1600 meters and 2000 meters. He has notable siblings, including Fasol (by Galileo), who has twice placed at Gr.3 level over distances of 3000 meters and 3100 meters, and Silius (by Dubawi), a Listed winner over 1500 meters and multiple Gr.3 placed runner. Additionally, Silawi is a half-brother to Silastar (by Sea The Stars), a successful horse with four wins across distances ranging from 1600 meters to 2400 meters.
Silawi’s victory at the Winter Hill Stakes not only highlights his capabilities but also underscores the quality of the breeding behind him, further establishing his reputation in the racing world. As he continues his racing career, fans and followers will be keen to see how this talented gelding performs in future events.
