Silawi Claims Victory in Gr.3 Winter Hill Stakes at Windsor

On August 26, 2023, at Windsor, Silawi delivered a stunning performance in the Gr.3 Weatherbys Global Stallions App Winter Hill Stakes, dominating the race with a decisive front-running victory. The event, contested over a distance of 2,000 meters, attracted a select field of five runners, showcasing the talent within the racing community.
Trained by Hamad Al Jehani and ridden by jockey Cieren Fallon, Silawi raced in the silks of Wathnan Racing. The five-year-old gelding had previously proven his capabilities at Windsor, having triumphed in the Thorn Plant Hire Ltd Handicap earlier in May. Despite arriving off a fifth-place finish in the Coral Chesterfield Cup Handicap, he stepped up to Group company, securing his first Gr.3 victory.
A Strong Start and Commanding Lead
From the start, Silawi surged into the lead, closely pursued by Devil’s Advocate. The well-regarded Military Order trailed behind, seemingly poised to challenge later in the race. As the competitors made their way down the back straight, Silawi maintained a comfortable lead, forcing his rivals to work harder as the pace increased approaching the final bend.
With the finish line in sight, Military Order began to close the gap, appearing as the primary threat to Silawi. However, the leader responded with determination, finding an extra gear to maintain his advantage. The two horses battled fiercely along the straight, but Silawi remained in control, ultimately crossing the finish line three-quarters of a length ahead of Military Order, who settled for second place. Royal Playwright charged from the back to claim third.
Proven Lineage and Future Potential
Born from the esteemed breeding program of Wertheimer et Frere, Silawi is a product of Silasol, a dual Gr.1 winner who excelled over distances of 1,600 meters at two years old and 2,000 meters at three. Silawi is a half-brother to Fasol (by Galileo), a consistent performer at Gr.3 levels over distances of 3,000 and 3,100 meters, as well as a full brother to Silius (by Dubawi), a Listed winner at 1,500 meters and a three-time Gr.3 placed horse over 1,400 and 1,600 meters. Additionally, he shares connections with Silastar (by Sea The Stars), who has achieved four victories across distances from 1,600 to 2,400 meters.
With this impressive victory in the Winter Hill Stakes, Silawi has established himself as a serious contender, leaving fans and analysts eager to see his next steps on the racing circuit. His combination of speed and stamina hints at a promising future ahead in the competitive world of horse racing.
