Silawi Secures Dominant Victory in Winter Hill Stakes at Windsor

In a stunning display of talent, Silawi achieved a commanding victory in the Gr.3 Weatherbys Global Stallions App Winter Hill Stakes at Windsor on Saturday, August 26, 2023. The five-year-old gelding led the race from start to finish, showcasing his impressive front-running ability in the 2000-metre contest designed for horses three years and older.
Trained by Hamad Al Jehani and ridden by Cieren Fallon, Silawi entered the race with a proven track record, having previously won the Thorn Plant Hire Ltd Handicap at the same venue in May. Despite finishing fifth in the Coral Chesterfield Cup Handicap in his last outing, he stepped up to Group company with authority, marking his first victory at this level.
Race Highlights and Performance
From the outset, Silawi quickly seized the lead, closely followed by Devil’s Advocate, while the well-regarded Military Order settled in behind. As the race progressed down the back straight, Silawi maintained a comfortable pace, forcing his competitors to work harder as the tempo increased approaching the final bend.
Although Military Order began to close the gap and posed the only significant threat, Silawi responded with determination. The two horses battled for dominance throughout the final stretch, yet Silawi consistently maintained his advantage, ultimately crossing the finish line three-quarters of a length ahead of Military Order. Royal Playwright made a late charge to secure third place.
Background and Pedigree
Silawi was bred by Wertheimer et Frere and is out of Silasol, a dual Gr.1 winner over distances of 1600m and 2000m. The gelding has notable lineage, being a half-brother to Fasol (sired by Galileo), who finished second in Gr.3 races over 3000m and 3100m. Additionally, he shares a full sibling relationship with Silius (sired by Dubawi), a Listed winner and three-time Gr.3 placed horse, and is also a half-brother to Silastar (sired by Sea The Stars), a four-time winner across distances ranging from 1600m to 2400m.
Silawi’s victory not only highlights his individual talent but also underscores the strength of his breeding, promising an exciting future ahead in the realm of thoroughbred racing.
