The town of Duntroon is celebrating its 150th anniversary this weekend with a series of engaging activities designed to showcase its rich history and community spirit. The celebrations, organized by the Duntroon and District Development Association, have drawn considerable excitement from local residents and visitors alike.

Owen King, chairman of the association, noted the extensive preparations leading up to the event. “We have been humming with all the preparation,” he said. Although organizers did not require attendees to register, they estimated a turnout ranging from 150 to 250 people. King mentioned that they have made provisions should attendance exceed expectations.

Jam-Packed Schedule of Events

The weekend festivities kick off with an arts and crafts market starting at 10:00 AM on March 16, 2024. Concurrently, the Duntroon Hall will host an exhibition featuring photographs and media that illustrate the town’s history. This event provides an opportunity for attendees to engage with Duntroon’s past and present.

On Saturday, the inaugural heritage trail tour will guide participants through six significant historical sites in the town. This unique tour will be enhanced by the presence of a horse-drawn carriage, adding a charming touch to the experience.

The following day, festivities will continue with a service at St Martin’s Church at 11:30 AM. This will be followed by a ceremonial planting of a totara tree to commemorate the milestone anniversary. The weekend will conclude with a luncheon and a cake-cutting ceremony at the Duntroon Hall, bringing together the community in celebration.

Local Attractions Open for Visitors

Throughout the weekend, several local attractions will be accessible to visitors, including the Vanished World Centre, Nicol’s Blacksmith shop, and the Duntroon Hotel. These sites offer a glimpse into the cultural heritage of Duntroon and its surrounding areas.
