Black Ferns Celebrate Rugby World Cup Win, Injury Updates Positive

The Black Ferns have secured a commanding victory in their opening match of the Rugby World Cup, defeating Spain with a score of 54-8. Following the match, the team received good news regarding the health of three key players who had left the field due to injuries. Loose forward Kaipo Olsen-Baker, winger Ayesha Leti-I’iga, and centre Amy du Plessis will remain with the squad as they prepare for their upcoming fixture against Japan.
During the match on March 15, 2024, Olsen-Baker was stretchered off in the second half after suffering a lower leg injury. This was particularly significant as she was making her return from a previous foot injury. Initial assessments have cleared her of an ankle fracture, although she will undergo further observation to establish a timeline for her return to play.
Injury Assessments for Key Players
Both Leti-I’iga and du Plessis are facing similar circumstances, with Leti-I’iga dealing with an ankle issue and du Plessis nursing a shoulder injury. Like Olsen-Baker, their conditions will require additional evaluation to determine when they can rejoin full training and match play. All three players are expected to travel with the team to Exeter, where they will prepare for their next match.
This positive update on the injury front comes as a relief for the Black Ferns, who are looking to build momentum in the tournament. The team’s performance against Spain showcased their strength and determination, setting a high standard as they move forward in the competition.
The Black Ferns will face Japan in their next match, scheduled for March 18, 2024, New Zealand time. As the team continues to assess the injuries, fans will be eager to see how the squad adapts and prepares for the challenges ahead in the Rugby World Cup.
