New Zealand Welcomes Anne Hegerty and Issa Shultz to The Chase

The popular quiz show, The Chase, is set to make its debut in New Zealand on November 3, 2023, featuring renowned Chasers, Anne Hegerty and Issa Shultz. The four-part series was filmed in Australia earlier this year and will air on TVNZ 1 and TVNZ+. This marks a significant expansion for the franchise, which has captured audiences worldwide with its engaging format and challenging trivia.
During a recent visit to the filming set, The Herald had the opportunity to speak with Hegerty and Shultz, who are excited to bring their unique styles to the New Zealand audience. Hegerty, known as the “Governess,” is celebrated for her sharp wit and vast knowledge, while Shultz, dubbed “Supernerd,” brings an enthusiastic energy that appeals to trivia enthusiasts. Together, they join host Paul Henry to challenge contestants and test their knowledge across various subjects.
Behind the Scenes with The Chasers
The Chasers have become iconic figures in the quiz show genre, each with their distinct personas that resonate with fans. Hegerty described her role as both a privilege and a challenge, stating, “Being a Chaser requires not just intelligence but also the ability to engage with contestants on a personal level.” She emphasized the importance of maintaining a balance between competitiveness and encouragement, making the experience enjoyable for participants.
Shultz echoed this sentiment, sharing his perspective on the nickname “Supernerd.” He remarked, “I embrace it wholeheartedly. It reflects my passion for trivia and the love I have for sharing knowledge. I want contestants to feel inspired and excited to compete.” His enthusiasm is palpable, and it is clear that both Chasers aim to foster a supportive atmosphere while delivering the intensity fans have come to expect from The Chase.
Filming for the series took place earlier in the year, and the production team worked diligently to create a dynamic environment that captures the essence of the original show. The set features vibrant visuals and high-energy moments designed to keep viewers engaged.
Anticipation Builds for Viewers
As the premiere date approaches, excitement is building among New Zealand viewers. The Chase has a loyal fan base, and local adaptations have successfully resonated with audiences in other countries. With Hegerty and Shultz at the helm, there are high hopes for the show’s reception.
The series promises to deliver the same thrill and intellectual challenge that fans have come to love, with local contestants bringing their own flair to the competition. Each episode will feature a range of contestants, showcasing New Zealand’s diverse talent and knowledge base.
With the introduction of The Chase New Zealand, the franchise continues to evolve and adapt to different cultures while maintaining the core elements that make it a favorite among quiz show enthusiasts. Viewers can expect a mix of humor, tension, and stimulating trivia as they tune in to watch Hegerty and Shultz put contestants to the test starting November 3.
