Qatari Team Aims for Glory at Asian Youth Games in Bahrain

Idris Abubaker, a prominent runner on the Qatari national team, has expressed strong confidence in the team’s readiness to excel at the upcoming 3rd Asian Youth Games, scheduled to take place in Bahrain from October 22 to 31. Abubaker highlighted the athletes’ determination to not only perform well but also to enhance the reputation of Qatari athletics on a continental stage.
Having recently secured a medal in the 110m hurdles at the West Asian Athletic Championships in Lebanon, Abubaker emphasized the national team’s goal of bringing home as many medals as possible. He pointed to their recent success at the West Asian Youth Athletics Championships, where Qatar achieved a remarkable first-place finish with 23 medals, showcasing their strength in the youth category.
Team Preparedness and Aspirations
Abubaker, who is just 18 years old, remarked that all members of the national team are equipped with high technical skills and a robust confidence in their abilities. He noted that achieving personal bests and qualifying for the World Youth Championships is a key objective for the team, alongside their pursuit of medals. “Reaching the global stage with strong performances is just as valuable as winning medals,” he stated.
The support from the Qatar Athletics Federation and technical staff plays a crucial role in the athletes’ preparation. Abubaker expressed his belief that this backing fuels their ambition to bring further recognition to Qatari athletics. He remarked on the current generation of Qatari athletes, highlighting their determination, competitive spirit, and confidence in overcoming challenges, which are essential for their success in both track and field events.
Historic Momentum and Future Goals
The runner emphasized that their historic first-place finish at the West Asian Athletic Championships is a significant motivator as they prepare for the Asian Youth Games. This momentum is expected to propel them towards additional successes, ultimately paving the way for the 2025 World Youth Championships.
The Asian Youth Games will see participation from a total of 45 countries, featuring a diverse array of sports, with athletics being one of the most medal-rich disciplines. As the Qatari team gears up for this major event, their focus remains firmly on achieving excellence and representing their country with pride.
