Qatar Stock Exchange Hits Seven-Week High with 0.91% Gain

The Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) index recorded a notable increase of 0.91 percent this week, marking its seventh consecutive week of gains. The index closed at 11,363 points, adding 102 points to its total. This steady upward trend reflects a robust market performance amid an influx of foreign investment.
Market Performance and Sector Highlights
In comments to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), Ramzi Qasmieh, an Investment Manager at Qatar Securities Company, highlighted that the general index has surged by more than 10 percent over the last seven weeks. He attributed this growth to increased foreign liquidity, particularly in leading stocks within the banking sector. Notably, shares of QNB reached their highest levels since May 2022.
Qasmieh noted that five sectors finished the week positively, with the transportation sector leading the way with a gain of 2.27 percent. The industrial sector followed closely with an increase of 1.68 percent. Conversely, the insurance and telecommunications sectors faced declines, closing in the red.
The strong momentum observed in the QSE can be attributed to both established and speculative stocks, as new liquidity continues to flow into the market. Qasmieh remarked on the overall positive sentiment that has characterized the market over this period.
Individual Stock Performances
Among the standout performers, shares of the Investment Holding Group surged by 10.2 percent, while Baladna Company saw its shares rise by 8.2 percent. The industrial sector also benefited from rising prices of key products in global markets, such as urea and aluminum, bolstering the performance of related stocks.
On the downside, the insurance sector experienced declines, with shares of Qatar General Insurance and Reinsurance dropping by 4.9 percent. AlKhaleej Takaful followed with a decrease of 2.2 percent. These fluctuations highlight the varying dynamics within different sectors of the market as it continues to evolve.
As the QSE maintains its upward trajectory, the focus will likely remain on the impact of foreign investments and the overall economic climate in Qatar. The current trends suggest that investors are keenly optimistic about the market’s potential moving forward.
