SICPA Celebrates 10 Years in Malaysia as Innovation Hub
On October 24, 2025, SICPA marked the 10th anniversary of its Asia Pacific Center of Excellence in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. This milestone aligns with Malaysia’s notable positioning in the World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) Global Innovation Index (GII) 2025, where it ranked 34th out of 139 countries. This achievement highlights the nation’s emerging role as a regional hub for secure digital innovation.
SICPA, a global leader in authentication, identification, and secure traceability solutions, established its Cyberjaya center in 2015. As one of only five such facilities worldwide, it plays a critical role in SICPA’s strategy to develop advanced phygital (physical-digital) security technologies. These innovations aim to protect national revenues, combat illicit trade, and ensure product authenticity across various sectors.
Innovative Technologies Addressing Illicit Trade
The focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become paramount in the realm of innovation in 2025. SICPA’s research emphasizes the need to integrate advanced digital technologies with material security features to tackle the complexities of illicit trade. This approach not only benefits client countries dealing with excisable goods—such as spirits, wine, and tobacco—but also significantly enhances national security and consumer safety.
In Malaysia, SICPA’s newly launched technology module, Digital Market Intelligence, exemplifies this effort. It aids in detecting recurring fraud patterns by leveraging secure coding and advanced AI analytics. By processing vast amounts of data, this module provides actionable intelligence that allows authorities to identify high-risk areas for more effective intervention.
The integration of forensic capabilities, supported by banknote-grade security features, further enhances judicial enforcement. As a result, Malaysian authorities have achieved record-breaking tax collections month after month, underscoring the effectiveness of these technological advancements.
Building Local Expertise and Global Connections
Beyond technological innovation, SICPA’s Cyberjaya center serves as a vital talent incubator. Housing over 120 professionals from 18 different countries, the center fosters the development of Malaysia’s next generation of security and digital innovation specialists. It leads the charge in creating secure mobile applications for product authentication, empowering consumers and regulators alike to verify goods and combat counterfeiting.
A spokesperson from SICPA remarked, “As Malaysia continues to climb the ranks of the Global Innovation Index, our mission at SICPA is to strengthen the nation’s innovation capacity, sovereignty, and security.” This commitment reflects SICPA’s long-term investment in supporting the Malaysian government’s Digital Economy Blueprint (MyDIGITAL) while advancing regional innovation capabilities.
Global Leader in Secure Solutions
Founded in Switzerland, SICPA has been a frontrunner in the field of authentication and secure traceability for nearly a century. The company protects the majority of the world’s banknotes and provides cutting-edge solutions that help governments, industries, and citizens ensure the integrity of products and public services. In Malaysia, SICPA’s technologies are instrumental in maintaining tax integrity, product authenticity, and consumer trust.
As SICPA celebrates a decade in Malaysia, the company reaffirms its dedication to driving innovation that not only benefits local economies but also has a far-reaching global impact.
