SICPA Celebrates 10 Years in Malaysia, Boosting Digital Security
On October 24, 2025, SICPA, a global leader in authentication and secure traceability solutions, celebrated the 10th anniversary of its Asia Pacific Center of Excellence in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. This milestone coincides with Malaysia’s impressive performance in the World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) Global Innovation Index, where it ranked 34th out of 139 countries, marking one of the highest positions in Southeast Asia.
SICPA’s Role in National Innovation
Established in 2015, the Cyberjaya center is one of only five SICPA centers worldwide. It plays a crucial role in the company’s global innovation strategy, particularly in developing phygital (physical-digital) security technologies. These innovations aim to protect national revenues, combat illicit trade, and ensure product authenticity. Over the past decade, the center has evolved into a key hub for advanced Secure Track & Trace systems and Digital Authentication solutions, which are now widely implemented globally.
The technologies developed at the Cyberjaya center have empowered governments to safeguard excise revenue, secure supply chains, and protect consumers from counterfeit products. The integration of these advanced solutions has become vital in addressing the complexities of illicit trade.
Leveraging AI for Enhanced Security
As the digital landscape evolves in 2025, the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become increasingly significant. SICPA is focused on leveraging advanced AI technologies alongside traditional security features in documents and banknotes. This approach has proved beneficial for client countries dealing with excisable goods, such as spirits, wine, soft drinks, and tobacco.
One notable innovation from SICPA is the Digital Market Intelligence module, designed to detect recurring fraud patterns. By combining material-based secure coding with advanced AI analytics, this module processes vast amounts of data to provide actionable intelligence. It helps authorities identify high-risk areas and strategically allocate resources to combat fraud effectively. The forensic capabilities, enhanced by banknote-grade security features, further support judicial enforcement.
As a result of these initiatives, Malaysian authorities have seen record-breaking tax collections, underscoring the importance of SICPA’s contributions to national revenue.
Empowering Local Talent
Beyond its technological advancements, SICPA’s Cyberjaya center serves as a hub for regional talent development. It employs over 120 professionals from 18 countries, fostering the next generation of specialists in security and digital innovation. The center is also leading the development of secure mobile applications for product authentication, empowering both consumers and regulators to verify goods and combat counterfeiting.
A spokesperson for SICPA stated, “As Malaysia continues to climb the ranks of the Global Innovation Index, our mission is to strengthen the nation’s innovation capacity, sovereignty, and security. The Asia Pacific Center of Excellence in Cyberjaya exemplifies how global expertise and local innovation can combine to deliver trusted solutions that protect economies and empower nations.”
SICPA’s ongoing investment in Malaysia highlights its long-term commitment to supporting the government’s Digital Economy Blueprint (MyDIGITAL) and enhancing regional innovation capabilities.
