Al Zeer Triumphs in Gr.3 UAE President Cup in Belgium

In a thrilling display of endurance and skill, Al Zeer, a consistent five-year-old Purebred Arabian, claimed victory in the Gr.3 (PA) UAE President Cup on March 4, 2024. This marked the 11th leg of the Arabian Purebred Classic Series, held at Waregem, Belgium. The race spanned 2,170 meters and featured a competitive field of twelve horses aged four and older.
Trained by François Rohaut and ridden by jockey Luka Delozier, Al Zeer arrived in Belgium following a commendable second-place finish in a Gr.3 (PA) race over 2,150 meters at Duindigt. This latest win adds to his impressive résumé, which already includes a Gr.2 (PA) victory last season.
Race Dynamics and Strategy
At the start of the race, Al Zeer quickly settled into fourth position but found himself three wide without cover. Joe Star, representing Al Mourtajez, set a brisk pace, with Norma Al Maury in second place. As they passed the stands with one circuit remaining, Al Zeer advanced to third, maintaining his position on the outside.
As the horses entered the back straight, Joe Star increased the tempo, while Al Zeer shadowed the leader from the outside. Approaching the final bend, Joe Star managed to pull a length ahead, but Al Zeer surged forward, intensifying the competition.
In a captivating duel through the final furlong, Al Zeer demonstrated remarkable determination, ultimately overcoming Joe Star to seize the victory. Nabucco Al Maury, representing Assy, finished in a strong third place.
Background and Pedigree
Al Zeer was bred by MBF and is the offspring of Assma Al Khalediah (by Amer), a notable competitor with three wins between 1,900 and 2,100 meters at four years old. Assma Al Khalediah also achieved a second-place finish in a Gr.2 (PA) race over 2,200 meters at five.
Furthermore, Al Zeer is a half-brother to Fazza Al Khalediah (by Jalnar Al Khalidiah), a dual Gr.1 (PA) winner over 2,000 meters at ages four and six, and has multiple Group 1 placements. Assma Al Khalediah is additionally linked to Ocyrrhoe (by Al Nasr), a Gr.1 (PA) winner over 2,000 meters at four.
This victory at the UAE President Cup solidifies Al Zeer’s status as a formidable competitor in the Arabian racing scene, showcasing his grit and competitive spirit on an international stage.
