Columba College Principal Steps Down, Aaron Everett Continues as Acting Head
A significant leadership change has occurred at Columba College in Dunedin. The school’s principal, Mrs. Nicol, will not return following her leave, which began in July 2023. This announcement was made by Graeme Riley, presiding member of the Board of Trustees, and Amy Columb, president of the Board of Governors, through a communication sent to staff and parents.
Mrs. Nicol, who assumed the principal role in 2023, was the third principal at the institution since 2018. The statement from the board expressed gratitude for her contributions, stating, “We would like to thank Mrs. Nicol for all her work at the college. She has shown passion and drive in leading the school and we wish her all the very best in her endeavours.”
In the interim, Aaron Everett will continue to serve as the acting principal. He reached out to students in a message, encouraging open dialogue with parents and teachers regarding any questions or concerns they may have.
Mr. Everett acknowledged the potential for uncertainty surrounding this development. “I understand that this news may be unsettling,” he said. “While this is a change for our school, I want to assure you that all of the end-of-year celebrations and events will happen as usual.” He emphasized the importance of community support during this transition, stating, “As a community, we support each other and I know you will all look after each other.”
The leadership transition reflects ongoing changes within the school, which has seen fluctuating leadership in recent years. As the academic year approaches its conclusion, the college community is focused on maintaining a stable environment in light of these changes.
Further details are expected to be reported in the Otago Daily Times and on ODT Online in the coming days.
