Black Ferns Celebrate Win as Trio Cleared of Serious Injuries

The Black Ferns have secured a decisive victory in their opening match of the Rugby World Cup, defeating Spain with a score of 54-8. Following the match, the team received positive medical news regarding three key players who left the field due to injuries. Kaipo Olsen-Baker, Ayesha Leti-I’iga, and Amy du Plessis will continue with the squad as they prepare for their next test against Japan.
Olsen-Baker, a loose forward making her return from a previous foot injury, was stretchered off in the second half after suffering a lower leg injury. Initial assessments ruled out an ankle fracture, but further observation is needed to establish a timeline for her return to play. Similarly, winger Leti-I’iga, who is dealing with an ankle issue, and du Plessis, who has a shoulder concern, will undergo additional evaluations to determine their recovery paths.
Despite the injury concerns, all three players remain integral members of the team as they travel to Exeter for their upcoming test match against Japan, scheduled for March 25, 2024 (NZ time).
The Black Ferns’ strong performance against Spain showcased their depth and resilience, and the news regarding Olsen-Baker, Leti-I’iga, and du Plessis is a relief for the coaching staff and fans alike. The team aims to build on their momentum as they prepare to face Japan, a match that will be crucial for their campaign in the tournament.
As the Rugby World Cup progresses, the health and fitness of key players will be critical to the Black Ferns’ success. Their focus now shifts to recovery and preparation for what promises to be an exciting encounter in Exeter.
