Junior Netball Season Concludes with Vibrant Celebrations

The junior netball season at Mt Aspiring College (Mac) wrapped up with a lively celebration that showcased the talent and teamwork of its young athletes. On the final day, 240 Year 7 and 8 students donned their team colours, competing with enthusiasm during their last matches of the season. The event drew a supportive crowd of parents, teachers, and volunteers, while senior student coaches cheered on the younger players, creating a vibrant atmosphere.
In addition to the competitive spirit displayed on the court, the season fostered meaningful connections between junior players and their senior coaches. Julia Hunt, secretary of the Mac netball committee, highlighted the positive mentoring relationships that developed throughout the season. She noted that students in years 11, 12, and 13 actively participated in coaching, enjoying the opportunity to engage with the younger players.
“The senior school students give back and really enjoy seeing these kids and building great relationships with them,” Hunt stated. This mentorship not only benefited the junior players but also provided valuable experiences for the senior coaches.
Among the 27 senior students involved in coaching was Lily Garrett, a Year 11 student who reflected on her experience. “We got to experience coaching, but with some help along the way,” she said. Garrett emphasized the importance of learning to manage a team effectively, a skill she began developing last year.
As the season came to a close, the sense of community and support within the netball program was palpable. The event underscored the commitment of all participants, from the enthusiastic junior players to the dedicated senior coaches, who collectively contributed to a successful season filled with camaraderie and growth. The closing ceremony not only celebrated athletic achievements but also reinforced lasting friendships and mentorships that will benefit students in the years to come.
