Ali Dahche Aims to Transform Howick Ward Representation

Ali Dahche is campaigning for a position as a councillor for the Howick ward on the Auckland Council and is also contesting for a seat on the Howick Local Board in the Botany subdivision. Dahche, who has deep roots in the community, emphasizes that his motivation stems from a desire to give back to the area that shaped his upbringing.
Dahche states, “I’m not doing this for a title or recognition, I’m doing it because Howick raised me.” He highlights the strong sense of community and shared values that define the region while also recognizing the challenges it faces, including rising rates, pressure on families, and the struggles of local businesses.
In his view, current residents are “paying more but getting less,” which he believes is unfair. As a candidate from the ACT party, Dahche calls for a reevaluation of local government priorities, arguing that councils often overlook fundamental services while engaging in wasteful spending. He advocates for a focus on essential community needs, promising to bring a disciplined approach similar to that of the ACT party at the central government level.
Commitment to Local Needs
Dahche’s campaign centers around five key priorities: respecting every dollar of rates paid by residents, cutting red tape to support local businesses, ensuring safe neighborhoods, creating better opportunities for youth, and implementing practical solutions to transportation issues. He asserts that these are not mere slogans but part of a comprehensive plan that he is already working on.
“My experience across New Zealand and the Middle East in various roles—from hospitality and facilities management to emergency operations during Covid-19—has prepared me to tackle these challenges,” Dahche explains. He emphasizes that he is not a career politician but rather a “doer” who has led large teams and achieved results in difficult situations.
Dahche aims to restore trust in local government, rebuild community unity, and ensure that the council prioritizes the needs of its constituents. He believes that Howick has played a significant role in shaping who he is today and is committed to serving the community to create a safer and stronger environment for all.
The upcoming local elections provide an opportunity for residents of Howick to consider Dahche’s proposals for change. With his focus on accountability and community engagement, he hopes to inspire a renewed sense of purpose in the local governance of Howick.
