Longtime Employee Steals Thousands from Hanmer Springs Resort
A former employee of the Hanmer Springs thermal pools in New Zealand has been charged with stealing nearly $20,000 from the resort over a period of several years. Nafiza Shareen, who worked at the facility for more than seven years, allegedly misappropriated funds while presenting herself as a dedicated team member who considered her colleagues family.
Shareen’s actions came to light during an internal investigation initiated by the resort’s management. According to a statement from the Hanmer Springs management, discrepancies in the financial records prompted a thorough review, revealing that Shareen had been manipulating transactions to divert money into her own accounts.

The investigation uncovered that Shareen had been involved in the theft from 2016 until her arrest in 2023.
