Police apprehended two teenagers following a break-in at a property on Formby Street in Outram, New Zealand, on March 25, 2024. The incident occurred around 14:00 local time when authorities received reports of “three young people wearing masks” entering a locked garage. According to Sergeant Matt Lee of Dunedin, the suspects fled in a vehicle after realizing they were observed, taking an item from the garage with them.

Law enforcement quickly located the vehicle on Three Mile Hill Road. Behind the wheel was a 17-year-old girl, accompanied by two 18-year-old males. Following their arrest, the two males were charged with burglary and have been released on bail to appear in the Dunedin District Court at a later date. The girl was referred to Youth Aid for further action.

Investigation Continues into Disqualified Driver

In a separate incident, police are investigating a disqualified driver who fled from officers in Central Dunedin on the same day. A white BMW was spotted at a roundabout near Anzac Avenue around 15:30. Checks revealed that the registered owner of the vehicle was a disqualified driver.

Police later identified the vehicle on Dundas Street, confirming that the 27-year-old male owner was behind the wheel. When officers activated their lights and sirens to initiate a stop, the vehicle accelerated, evading capture. Authorities opted not to pursue the vehicle at high speed but are continuing their efforts to locate and apprehend the driver. Once found, the vehicle will be impounded, according to Sergeant Lee.

The swift response from law enforcement in both cases highlights their commitment to addressing criminal activity in the area. As investigations proceed, police encourage anyone with information related to these incidents to come forward.
