Lusail International Circuit Champions Sustainability During Qatar Week
Doha, Qatar: Lusail International Circuit (LIC) has announced its participation in the 10th edition of Qatar Sustainability Week (QSW), taking place from November 1 to 8, 2025. This initiative, led by the Earthna Center for a Sustainable Future, aims to promote sustainability efforts across Qatar and reflects LIC’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
As part of its ongoing efforts, LIC has implemented various sustainability initiatives designed to minimize its environmental impact while encouraging responsible practices within the motorsport community. This aligns with the objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030, which emphasizes sustainable environmental development.
Key Sustainability Initiatives
Among the recent activities, the LIC team participated in a mangrove planting event at Al Thakhira, contributing to the enhancement of Qatar’s coastal ecosystems and biodiversity. The circuit has also introduced a range of measures aimed at furthering its sustainability goals:
– **Waste Reduction Policy**: Event banners from the 2024 motorsport season have been repurposed into 200 reusable tote bags. Following events in 2025, additional banners will be upcycled into new merchandise, ensuring materials are given a second life.
– **Recycled Water Bottles**: All plastic bottles used for water distribution are made from 100% recycled plastic, achieving a reduction in emissions by approximately 79% through a closed-loop recycling system.
– **Food Redistribution**: Safe, non-perishable food remaining after events is donated to local charities. In 2024 alone, more than 20 tonnes of food were redistributed to those in need.
– **Low Carbon Fan Transport**: To promote sustainable mobility, LIC provides free, low carbon public transport options for all ticketed fans attending international events.
– **Recycled Paper Use**: The circuit will utilize 100% recycled paper for all printing needs during the event.
Ongoing Commitment to Sustainability
– **On-Site Recycling and Composting**: The venue features dedicated recycling stations, segregation yards, and BioBins to ensure waste is sorted appropriately, with food waste being transformed into agricultural compost.
– **Digital Ticketing**: Over 90% of event tickets are issued digitally, significantly reducing paper use.
– **Single Use Plastic Policy**: LIC enforces a strict avoidance of unnecessary single-use plastics throughout its operations.
Through these combined efforts, Lusail International Circuit continues to demonstrate its unwavering dedication to sustainable practices. By actively participating in Qatar Sustainability Week, LIC reinforces its commitment to a greener, more responsible future for Qatar.
