Gary Busey Receives Two-Year Probation for Sexual Misconduct

Actor Gary Busey, 81, has been sentenced to two years’ probation after pleading guilty to a charge of criminal sexual misconduct. The ruling follows an incident at the Monster-Mania Con in New Jersey in August 2022, where Busey was accused of groping multiple women. His sentencing took place during a virtual court hearing on July 27, 2023.
During the court appearance, Busey’s attorney, Blair Zwillman, expressed that Busey was relieved by the resolution of the case. Zwillman stated, “Mr. Busey is pleased that the case has been resolved and that he can go on with his life without any continuing, daily public adversity.”
The charges against Busey included two counts of criminal sexual contact in the fourth degree, one count of attempting criminal sexual contact in the fourth degree, and one disorderly count of harassment. Following a plea agreement with prosecutors, the additional charges were dismissed, allowing Busey to plead guilty to the single charge of criminal sexual misconduct.
The incident that led to Busey’s legal troubles arose during the horror film convention, where several women reported incidents of inappropriate touch to the authorities. The legal proceedings have highlighted the ongoing discussions around consent and accountability within the entertainment industry.
This case serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing allegations of sexual misconduct seriously, especially in public spaces such as conventions, where fans meet their favorite stars. Busey’s probation will require him to adhere to specific conditions, although the details of these conditions have not been disclosed publicly.
As Busey looks to move forward with his life post-sentencing, the implications of his actions resonate within broader conversations about safety and respect in entertainment venues.
