The principal of Columba College, Mrs. Nicol, will not be returning to her position after taking leave since July. This announcement was made in a statement from Graeme Riley, presiding member of the College Board of Trustees, and Amy Columb, president of the Board of Governors, which was emailed to staff and parents on September 18, 2023.

Mrs. Nicol had served as principal of the state-integrated school in Dunedin since 2023, making her the third principal in the institution’s leadership since 2018. The statement expressed gratitude for her contributions, noting, “We would like to thank Mrs. Nicol for all her work at the college. She has shown passion and drive in leading the school, and we wish her all the very best in her endeavours.”

In light of this change, Aaron Everett, who has been serving as acting principal, will continue in this role for the time being. Mr. Everett addressed students in a message, encouraging them to engage with their parents and teachers regarding any questions or concerns they might have about the transition.

“I understand that this news may be unsettling,” Mr. Everett stated. “While this is a change for our school, I want to assure you that all of the end-of-year celebrations and events will happen as usual. As a community, we support each other, and I know you will all look after each other.”

Mr. Everett also acknowledged Mrs. Nicol’s contributions to the college, highlighting her dedication to the school community. As the institution navigates this leadership transition, the focus remains on maintaining stability and ensuring that educational activities continue smoothly.

Further updates regarding the search for a new principal and any changes in school operations will likely be shared in future communications with the college community.
