Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor Loses Final Royal Titles in Official Announcement
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has officially lost his last remaining royal titles, following a formal announcement from his brother, King Charles III. The decision, made public at midday on Monday, was recorded in The Gazette, the official public record of the United Kingdom. This move represents a significant escalation in the fallout from Mountbatten-Windsor’s controversial associations.
In the announcement, the King stated that he had “cancelled and annulled” Mountbatten-Windsor’s membership in the Order of the Garter, which had been bestowed upon him on April 23, 2006. This title is one of the highest honours in the British honours system, and the King’s directive included the erasure of Mountbatten-Windsor’s name from the register of those holding this honour. Additionally, his title as a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order was also annulled.
This latest development follows Mountbatten-Windsor’s earlier removal from other royal titles. He was stripped of his birthright to the title of prince, as well as the honorific His Royal Highness (HRH). The King previously removed his Duke of York title from the Roll of the Peerage, citing “serious lapses of judgment” related to Mountbatten-Windsor’s friendship with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The entry in The Gazette specifies that “the appointment of Andrew Albert Christian Edward Mountbatten-Windsor to be a Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, dated 23 April 2006, shall be cancelled and annulled.” This formal action underscores the gravity of the situation surrounding Mountbatten-Windsor and reflects the ongoing scrutiny of his past associations.
As public interest in the British monarchy continues, this decision marks a pivotal moment in the royal family’s history. The implications of these changes resonate not only within royal circles but also among the general public, who have closely followed the developments surrounding Mountbatten-Windsor.
