One Fatality in Serious Two-Vehicle Collision Near Dunedin

A tragic accident claimed one life in a two-vehicle collision south of Dunedin early this morning. The incident occurred on State Highway 1 at the intersection with Allanton-Waihola Rd around 01:00 local time.
According to New Zealand Police, the Serious Crash Unit (SCU) is currently investigating the scene. The investigation is ongoing, and the road remains closed as authorities gather evidence.
Traffic Disruptions and Investigations Continue
As of 08:30, SH1 is closed between SH86 and Henley-Berwick Rd. The closure is expected to last until later today while the SCU completes its work. Detours are in place for motorists, with southbound traffic directed to use SH86 (Centre Rd) and Henley-Berwick Rd, while northbound vehicles are advised to reverse the same route.
A police spokesperson emphasized the importance of safety and urged drivers to remain clear of the area during the investigation. The police have not yet released the identity of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin.
