Search Efforts Intensify for Missing Fisherman Near Raglan

The search for a man who fell into the sea near Raglan’s Papanui Point is now in its second week, with authorities intensifying efforts to locate him. The incident occurred on August 25, 2023, at approximately 09:45 local time, when a man in his 20s was reported to have fallen into the water.
Authorities have confirmed that search operations are ongoing. A police spokesperson stated, “On Friday, police utilised a drone to search the isolated and rugged coastline. The Coastguard deployed their fixed-wing aircraft on Saturday and Sunday; however, these efforts were unsuccessful.”
Despite the challenges posed by the terrain and weather conditions, police will continue their search efforts this week, again employing drone technology to cover the difficult areas.
Community Support and Safety Efforts
Local community members have rallied to support the search, offering assistance and sharing information. The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any potential sightings or information that could aid in the recovery of the missing individual.
The search has highlighted concerns regarding safety along the coastal areas, especially for those engaging in water activities. Authorities are reminding the public to adhere to safety protocols when near the water, particularly in rough conditions.
As the search continues, family and friends of the missing man are hopeful for a positive outcome. The police have assured the community that all available resources will be used in the ongoing recovery efforts.
Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
