Life-Drawing Workshop Launches at The Arts Club Arrowtown

Holly Schroder has officially launched The Arts Club Arrowtown, kicking off with an innovative life-drawing workshop on September 30 at Ayrburn’s Barrel Room. This class focuses on capturing the energy and essence of the subject rather than striving for perfect realism, making it accessible for participants of all skill levels.
Schroder, who previously conducted art classes at the Auckland Art Gallery, emphasizes that no prior experience is necessary for attendees. All materials, including easels, will be provided. “The structure of the workshop is quite guided,” she explains. “You’re guided through each step so you won’t just be sitting there unsure of what to do. But then there’s also room for you to do your own thing as well.”
Workshop Details and Unique Approach
The workshop will feature a live, clothed model during its second half, allowing participants to practice their skills in a dynamic environment. Schroder, who hails from Hokitika and specializes in light installations, expressed her excitement about finding the venue. “When I discovered The Barrel Room, I thought, ‘this is the perfect space for an art workshop,’” she stated.
The first session is set to commence at 18:30 on September 30, with tickets priced at $99. Interested individuals can purchase tickets through the official website at www.theartsclubarrowtown.com.
Upcoming Opportunities for Artists
In addition to the life-drawing workshop, Schroder plans to conduct a second workshop a month later, where she will guide participants in creating ‘messy’ monochrome self-portraits. This approach reflects her commitment to encouraging artistic exploration and personal expression within a structured environment.
As The Arts Club Arrowtown continues to develop its programming, Schroder aims to foster a vibrant community of artists and art enthusiasts in the region. With engaging workshops and inclusive practices, the club is poised to become a key destination for creative expression in Arrowtown.
