Qatar’s national football team is set to face Bahrain in a friendly match on September 6 at Al Thumama Stadium. This encounter serves as a crucial preparation ahead of the fourth round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Friendly Matches as Preparation

The upcoming match against Bahrain marks Qatar’s first during the September international break. Following this, the team will play another friendly against Russia on September 7 at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium. These matches are vital for assessing the team’s technical readiness as they aim to bolster their chances of advancing to the World Cup finals.

Head coach Julen Lopetegui has assembled a squad of 26 players for the training camp and these two friendlies. The matches provide an important opportunity for players to showcase their skills and for the coaching staff to evaluate strategies and team dynamics.

Asian Qualifiers Ahead

Qatar will lead Group A in the Asian qualifiers, which will be hosted in Doha from October 8-11. This group also includes the UAE and Oman. The national team will kick off its qualifying campaign by facing Oman on October 8, followed by a match against the UAE on October 14. The match between Oman and the UAE is scheduled for October 11.

These friendly matches and the upcoming qualifiers are crucial for Qatar as they prepare to compete on the world stage. Success in the qualifiers will be essential for the team, which aims to make an impact in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
