Qatar Secures Silver in Men’s Double Trap at Asian Championship

Qatar’s shooting team concluded their participation in the 16th Asian Shooting Championship on a high note, securing a silver medal in the men’s double trap team event. This achievement brought their overall medal tally to seven, a testament to their strong performance throughout the tournament held in Shymkent, Kazakhstan.
The trio of Mohammed Al Rumaihi, Saeed Abu Shareb, and Rashid Al Athba showcased impressive skill, hitting a total of 266 targets over four rounds. They finished second, trailing only the host nation of Kazakhstan, while India secured the bronze medal.
In addition to the success in the team event, Al Rumaihi demonstrated individual prowess by finishing sixth in the individual double trap competition. Qatar’s medal collection also included a notable silver from Raya Basil in the women’s trap event, alongside five bronze medals across various team and mixed competitions in trap, skeet, and rifle disciplines.
Championship Overview and Future Aspirations
The Asian Shooting Championship, which took place over two weeks, attracted wide participation from nations across Asia, featuring disciplines such as pistol, rifle, skeet, and trap. The competitive atmosphere highlighted the growing talent within the region.
Secretary General of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation, Jassim Shaheen Al Sulaiti, praised the team’s achievements, attributing their success to dedicated preparation and substantial support from the Qatar Olympic Committee. He described the results as “a launchpad toward broader ambitions,” indicating that the team is poised for future success on the international stage.
As the Qatari team returns home today, their performance at the championship reflects not only their individual talents but also the collective effort that has been invested in training and development. With a total of seven medals, Qatar’s shooting team has set a strong foundation for future competitions, aiming to build on this momentum as they look ahead to upcoming events.
