Ananta Developers Highlight Key Differences from GTA 6
Ananta, an upcoming free-to-play adventure game developed by Naked Rain, has garnered over 15 million pre-registrations ahead of its release. The developers recently addressed the growing comparisons between Ananta and the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), emphasizing the significant differences that set their game apart.
The excitement surrounding Ananta intensified following the release of its latest gameplay trailer, which showcased more than seven minutes of in-game footage. The trailer highlighted a vibrant open world filled with diverse mechanics, including drone piloting, beat-em-up combat, and aerial traversal reminiscent of popular titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man.
In response to the buzz, the developers acknowledged the parallels drawn by fans between Ananta and GTA 6, particularly regarding driving mechanics and the concept of a lifelike virtual world. One comment humorously suggested that the release of GTA 6 was postponed due to fears of competing with Ananta. While this remark was made in jest, it sparked a serious discussion about the coexistence of the two franchises.
“We really appreciate the comparison to GTA 6,” the Naked Rain team stated in a recent written interview. “Although both Ananta and GTA 6 fall into the urban open-world genre, there are still very many key differences between us, from the art style and character stories to many other aspects.”
Distinct Urban Environments and Visual Styles
One of the most notable distinctions lies in Ananta’s setting. While both games feature modern cities, Ananta’s environment draws inspiration from East Asian culture. “Many city-themed games currently on the market are modeled on American cities like Los Angeles or New York,” the developers explained. “Since there are still very few games set in Asia, we wanted to create a game that captures the essence of modern Asian urban life and share it with the world.”
Currently, Ananta features one city, which the developers describe as “incomplete” but poised for gradual expansion. Plans are underway to introduce additional maps that will showcase iconic locations across Asia.
While the Grand Theft Auto series has historically embraced photorealism, Ananta opts for a more stylized approach with cel-shaded visuals. This artistic choice stems from the developers’ appreciation for anime, aiming to create a unique aesthetic that resonates with a global audience.
Innovative Character Switching and Gameplay Mechanics
Players can expect innovative gameplay mechanics, particularly in how characters are used within the game. Ananta allows players to switch between characters seamlessly, with each character continuing to live their own life even while players control another. “As you transition between characters, you’ll witness the progression of their lives and can pick up from where they left off,” the developers explained. This design aims to create a more dynamic experience, allowing diverse characters and professions to coexist within the urban environment.
The developers have made it clear that their vision for Ananta extends beyond simple character control. “Since the beginning, our vision has remained unchanged,” they noted. “Our goal is to create a game that surpasses players’ imaginations, allowing them to experience a virtual, fantastical life in an open world.”
Concerns about the free-to-play model compromising gameplay integrity have arisen, but Naked Rain assures players that there will be no character gacha mechanics. Instead, monetization will primarily focus on cosmetic character skins, allowing players to immerse themselves fully in their characters’ lives without restrictions.
“While reality limits us to one life, here you can enjoy as many unique lives as there are characters to embody,” the team reiterated. Customization options will also include upgrades for characters’ homes and vehicles, all attainable through in-game currency.
Anticipation continues to build for Ananta, which is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and mobile devices. No specific release date has been announced yet, but the gaming community is eagerly watching for updates as development progresses.
