Qatar’s Abderrahman Samba Powers Team to 4x400m Final in Tokyo

In a remarkable display of teamwork, the Qatari men’s 4×400 metres relay team, featuring Abderrahman Samba, Ammar Ismail, Bassem Hemeida, and Ismail Abakar, advanced to the final at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo with a time of 3:00.15 minutes. This performance not only secured their spot in the final but also set a new national record.
The team finished just behind South Africa, who topped the heat with a time of 2:58.81 minutes. The Netherlands also qualified from the same heat, achieving a season-best time of 3:00.23 minutes. Notably, the highly regarded US team failed to advance, finishing in sixth place.
Samba Reflects on Team’s Achievement
Following the heats, Samba expressed pride in his team’s performance. “The team ran as one unit, and we succeeded in achieving our goal of reaching the final,” he stated. He noted that this was their first time competing in the 4x400m relay at the World Championships, making qualification a significant milestone.
Samba elaborated on their approach, saying the strategy was to conserve energy for the final. “The final will be highly competitive, but we are determined to fight for a medal and a place on the podium despite the tough field,” he added.
On a personal note, Samba recently clinched his second World bronze medal, following his success in 2019 in front of a home crowd in Qatar. He finished behind gold medalist Rai Benjamin of the US and Brazil’s Alison Dos Santos in a race where he clocked a season-best time of 47.06 seconds.
Looking Ahead to the Final
As the relay final approaches, Qatar will compete against an impressive lineup that includes teams from Botswana, Belgium, Great Britain & Northern Ireland, South Africa, Jamaica, Portugal, Japan, and the Netherlands. The heat of competition promises to be fierce, but with Samba’s leadership and the team’s recent performance, Qatar is positioned to make a strong showing.
Samba’s journey to the championships has been marked by resilience. “This is the result of years of hard work and effort. I had been away for a long time and had suffered from injuries, but I managed to return after putting in a great deal of effort in training,” he remarked.
As anticipation builds for the final, the Qatari team has captured the attention of athletics fans worldwide, eager to see if they can secure another medal for their nation.
