Mysuru Drone Show Achieves Guinness World Record with 2,983 Drones

The city of Mysuru has made headlines by setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest drone show, featuring an impressive display of 2,983 drones. This remarkable achievement took place during the annual Dasara celebrations at the Torchlight Parade Grounds in Bannimantap on September 28, 2024. The show, organized by the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC), showcased a stunning aerial representation of a tiger, symbolizing India’s national pride.

CESC Managing Director Munigopal Raju explained that the decision to increase the number of drones from 1,500 in 2023 to nearly 3,000 this year was driven by the desire to create a more memorable experience for the audience. The record-setting attempt adhered to rigorous standards, involving certification from a London-based team and validation by both aeronautical engineers and legal experts. “The earlier record involved 1,985 drones forming a tiger. We wanted to surpass that and decided to attempt creating our national animal with 3,000 drones — something that had never been done before,” Raju remarked.

The initial trial demonstration occurred on the same day, followed by a second trial on September 29, leading up to the main performances scheduled for October 1 and 2. Audiences were captivated as the drones illuminated the sky with a series of vibrant images, including representations of the solar system, a world map, an Indian soldier, a peacock, an eagle, a dolphin, and even Lord Krishna dancing on a serpent. Additional visuals included cultural icons such as ‘Mother Cauvery,’ the Ambari elephant, and Goddess Chamundeshwari, alongside a map of Karnataka featuring state leaders including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.

Raju emphasized the meticulous planning that went into selecting the visuals, noting that each drone had limited power, which permitted only 10–12 transitions. The success of the show can be attributed to the collaboration of nearly 100 professionals from a private drone company and approximately 200 CESC staff members, all working together to ensure the event was a resounding success.

Before the drone spectacle began, the atmosphere was elevated by a vibrant musical performance from playback singer Kunal Ganjawala and his troupe, who entertained the crowd and set the tone for an unforgettable evening. The event not only highlighted technological innovation but also celebrated the rich cultural heritage of Karnataka, making this year’s Dasara festivities truly remarkable.
