Scientists Unravel Mystery of 1977 Alien Radio Signal

A team of scientists has made significant progress in understanding a mysterious radio signal detected in 1977, concluding it is likely of natural origin rather than extraterrestrial. The signal, known as the “Wow! signal,” was received by the Big Ear radio telescope at Ohio State University on August 15, 1977, and has intrigued researchers for decades.
The signal was recorded at a frequency of 1.42 GHz, which is close to the hydrogen line—an essential frequency in astrophysics. Jerry R. Ehman, who was a volunteer at the telescope, famously wrote “Wow!” in red ink on the printout, giving the signal its name.
