New Zealand cyclist Nate Pringle achieved a remarkable milestone by securing a silver medal in the men’s under-23 time trial at the World Road Cycling Championships held in Rwanda. Completing the challenging 31.2-kilometre course, Pringle finished just over one minute behind the event’s winner, Jakob Soderqvist of Sweden. French cyclist Maxime Decomble followed closely, finishing less than half a second behind Pringle to take the bronze.

The course featured a series of climbs and concluded on a cobbled section, which tested the endurance and skill of the riders. Reflecting on his performance, Pringle expressed his satisfaction in a post-race interview with Eurosport, stating, “It’s surreal. It was a bit of a surprise, but I don’t really have anything to compare it to. I just went as hard as I could and then tried to recover. I was pretty dead by those cobbles; they were so much harder in person, but it was really fun.”

Pringle, who joined the Red Bull-Bora Hansgrohe Rookies team in March, has had a successful season, having won the New Zealand under-23 time trial earlier this year. Despite his strong performance, he will not participate in the upcoming road race due to logistical issues with transporting his other bikes to Rwanda.

The World Road Cycling Championships are renowned for showcasing the best emerging talents in the sport, and Pringle’s silver medal marks a significant achievement for New Zealand cycling. His determination and hard work are evident in his performance, and his future in competitive cycling looks promising as he builds on this success.
