New Holistic Market Launches in Matakana This October
A new Holistic Market is set to open at Matakana Hall on October 18, 2023, offering a unique shopping and wellbeing experience for visitors. This market is organized by local astrologer and former social worker Mike Kirk, who aims to provide an alternative to the popular Farmers Market in the area. Following its launch, the market will also take place on November 15 and three Saturdays leading up to Christmas.
Kirk, who brings over 35 years of experience in astrological readings and holds a diploma from the Faculty of Astrological Studies in London, envisions the market as a refreshing take on holistic offerings. He emphasizes the importance of “presentation, professionalism, and promotion” as core elements of the market’s identity.
Market Features and Offerings
The Holistic Market, also referred to as the “Insight” Market, will showcase three main components. First, visitors can explore alternative health practitioners offering services such as reiki, acupuncture, reflexology, and colour therapy. Additionally, there will be readers providing insights through astrology, tarot, palmistry, and mediumship. Finally, quality retail stalls will feature health, wellbeing, and artisan products.
Kirk has made a conscious decision to keep stallholder fees low during the initial six months. He believes this approach will support practitioners and small businesses, particularly during challenging economic times. “Markets can be disheartening for newcomers if they don’t see results straight away,” Kirk explains. “By lowering the barrier to entry, we can encourage more people to give it a go and help the market grow.”
Strategic Location and Future Plans
Matakana Hall was chosen for its central location and availability on Saturdays, a day when many visitors already come to the village. Unlike the outdoor food-focused stalls of the Farmers Market, the Holistic Market will provide an indoor space dedicated to complementary services and products.
If the market proves successful, Kirk intends to expand its frequency to two or three times a month throughout the summer. With the anticipated opening just weeks away, local residents and visitors alike are eager to see how this new initiative will contribute to the vibrant community of Matakana.
