Alzabyr Triumphs in Al Gharafa Cup at Al Rayyan Racecourse
In a showcase of talent and promise, Alzabyr secured a decisive victory in the Al Gharafa Cup for three-year-old Purebred Arabians at Al Rayyan Racecourse, Doha, on March 2, 2024. The colt, ridden by jockey Marco Casamento, demonstrated exceptional skill, tracking the pace before delivering a powerful finish over the 1600-meter course.
Victory for Owner and Trainer
With this victory, Nasser Saif Al Kubaisi, the owner of Alzabyr, celebrated a significant achievement in the horse’s Qatar debut. The win also marked a successful day for trainer Mohammed Al Ghazali, who later guided Make Love to victory in the Thoroughbred Rated Maiden Plate, completing a remarkable double on the race card.
The head of Racing Operations at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club, Rashid Saed Adiba, presented the trophies to the winners of the feature race, highlighting the event’s prestige.
Strong Performances Throughout the Card
It was an impressive evening for jockey Alberto Sanna, who achieved a quickfire double with victories aboard Weissmuller in the Thoroughbred Handicap and Kawaii D’Vialettes in the Purebred Arabian Handicap. Sanna’s performance added to the excitement of the event, showcasing the competitive spirit of the day’s races.
Other notable winners included Alwaad in the Local Thoroughbred Handicap, Sealine in the Local Thoroughbred Graduation Plate, Dapper in the Thoroughbred Novice Plate, and Flame Fair in the Thoroughbred Rated Maiden Plate. The diverse range of winners underscored the depth of talent present at the racecourse.
This event not only celebrated the prowess of individual horses and riders but also highlighted the vibrant equestrian culture in Qatar, drawing attention from racing enthusiasts and fostering a sense of community among attendees.
