Alzabyr Triumphs in Debut at Al Gharafa Cup in Doha
In a remarkable debut, Alzabyr secured a victory in the Al Gharafa Cup at Al Rayyan Racecourse in Doha on October 30, 2023. The three-year-old Purebred Arabian colt, ridden by jockey Marco Casamento, produced a strong performance over a distance of 1,600 meters, showcasing his potential in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
Casamento skillfully guided Alzabyr through the race, keeping pace with the leaders before launching a powerful finish in the home straight. This decisive win not only marked a successful start for the colt but also brought joy to his owner, Nasser Saif Al Kubaisi.
Trainer Achieves Double Success
The victory contributed to a successful day for trainer Mohammed Al Ghazali, who later celebrated another win with Make Love in the Thoroughbred Rated Maiden Plate, completing a double on the card. This performance solidifies Al Ghazali’s reputation within the racing community.
Following the feature race, Rashid Saed Adiba, Head of Racing Operations at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club, presented the winners with their trophies, acknowledging the efforts of all participants in the competition.
Notable Performances Throughout the Evening
The evening proved to be particularly fruitful for jockey Alberto Sanna, who achieved a quickfire double, securing victories aboard Weissmuller in the Thoroughbred Handicap and Kawaii D’Vialettes in the Purebred Arabian Handicap.
Other notable winners on the card included Alwaad, who triumphed in the Local Thoroughbred Handicap, Sealine in the Local Thoroughbred Graduation Plate, Dapper in the Thoroughbred Novice Plate, and Flame Fair in the Thoroughbred Rated Maiden Plate.
With the excitement of the Al Gharafa Cup, the racing scene in Qatar continues to thrive, showcasing the talent of both horses and riders. The success of Alzabyr and his team underscores the vibrant culture of equestrian sports in the region.
