Bint Mohaather Triumphs in Qatar Oaks at Al Rayyan Racecourse
In a thrilling display of equestrian excellence, Bint Mohaather claimed victory in the QA Listed Qatar Oaks for three-year-old Thoroughbreds at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC)’s Al Rayyan Racecourse on October 22, 2023. The bay filly, representing Al Jeryan Stud, secured a significant win, marking her second successive triumph after a series of commendable performances.
Throughout the 2000-meter race, Bint Mohaather maintained a strategic position, initially settling off the pace. As the race intensified, she executed a powerful move in the home stretch, taking the lead within the final 300 meters and ultimately winning by a length. This impressive performance was directed by trainer MHK Al-Attiyah and jockey Lukas Delozier. Following the race, Bader bin Mohammed Al-Darwish, QREC Acting CEO, presented the trophy to Ali bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, representing Al Jeryan Stud.
Local Thoroughbred Oaks and Arabian Distinctions
In another highlight of the event, Wathnan Racing’s War Lady achieved her first career victory in the Local Thoroughbred Oaks for three-year-olds, running over 1850 meters. The bay filly showcased her potential by winning decisively by 3.5 lengths. Having tracked the leaders throughout the race, she surged ahead in the closing stages, delivering a strong performance for trainer Alban de Mieulle and jockey Soufiane Saadi, who retained the Oaks title for the second consecutive year.
Meanwhile, Wathnan Racing also celebrated victory with Chdia, who won the Purebred Arabian Oaks for four-year-olds. The bay filly, trained by Alban de Mieulle and ridden by James Doyle, extended her record to six wins from seven starts, finishing decisively three lengths ahead of her nearest competitor. This win not only secured her a title but also confirmed her status as a top competitor in the Arabian racing circuit.
Additional Victories and Performances
The evening continued with Shama’ah Bu Thaila, another horse from Wathnan Racing, who opened her campaign successfully by winning the Local Purebred Arabian Oaks for four-year-olds over 2000 meters. The grey filly executed a brilliant late run to clinch the victory by 1.25 lengths, adding to the impressive record of her trainer Alban de Mieulle and jockey Faleh Bughenaim.
Al Shaqab Racing’s Dhariya also retained her title in the Purebred Arabian Oaks for three-year-olds. The grey filly, trained by Jean de Mieulle, maintained her unbeaten streak in Qatar, finishing with a strong performance over 1600 meters and winning by 1.75 lengths. The trophy was awarded to Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al-Mansour, Chief Operating Officer of Al Shaqab Racing, by Abdulla Rashid Al-Kubaisi, QREC Racing Manager.
Lastly, Grace Secret from Umm Al Shukhut Farm displayed resilience by winning the Local Purebred Arabian Oaks for three-year-olds. Despite starting from the widest draw, the bay filly secured her third career victory, finishing just a neck ahead of her half-sister Kendah Al Shahania. Guided by jockey Pierre Charles Boudot, Grace Secret continued her impressive record of finishing in the top four in all her six career starts.
These remarkable performances at Al Rayyan Racecourse not only highlighted the talent present in Qatar’s racing scene but also underscored the growing international reputation of the nation as a significant player in thoroughbred and Arabian horse racing.
